Yiannopoulos to be billed for police presence

Published: 4:56 am, Thursday, 7 December 2017

Controversial British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos and his promoters will be asked to cough up at least $50,000 to cover the heavy police presence at his Melbourne event.

Hundreds of police were sent in to control up to 500 left-wing and up to 50 right-wing activists who clashed violently outside Yiannopoulos' Kensington event on Monday night.

Five officers were pelted with bottles and rocks and two protesters, one from each side, were arrested.

Police Minister Lisa Neville said the event's organisers would be sent a bill for at least $50,000 to cover the police presence.

She said it was a standard practice for these kinds of events.

'I'm not sure whether they have (agreed to pay it) but they will certainly be getting a bill for it,' Ms Neville told 3AW on Wednesday night.

Organisers for Yiannopoulos' Australian tour previously said they expected to be billed about $150,000 for the police presence.

Perhaps the 500 left wing and 50 right wing activists who made the police presence necessary should be made to foot the bill.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? And before anyone accuses Yiannopoulos and his ilk of preaching hate I would ask what his opponents are doing when they call him a nazi, a fascist and even worse?

Did Milo invite the activists, and ask them to act in a violent manner? http://fairdinkumnewschat.b1.jcink.com/uploads/fairdinkumnewschat/smiley_don_t_know.gif

Free speech only applies to certain groups, and if violence breaks out they are excused, taxpayers foot the bill - the progressive push at work again, shut down ALL who dare speak out against the insane left!

Is that a Toll uniform I see??

Far-right activist must return Toll gear.

Far-right activist Neil Erikson has been ordered by the Federal Court to hand back his uniform to Toll after the freight group accused him of trying to deliberately damage its brand.

I certainly agree with free speech. I certainly agree that the progressive left are always out in force to shut down those who do not agree with their progressive ideals.

I agree with some of what Milo has to say, I do not agree with all of it. I am not 100% sure if it is true, but apparently Milo makes a lot of money from his speaking engagements and if that is the case, I don't mind him having to contribute to the police costs, so long as the trouble makers are charged for their misdemeanours and not allowed to get away with a limp tap on the wrists as usually happens.

Some, if not most of these people, aren't politically motivated, they just enjoy protesting, and the rougher the better. http://fairdinkumnewschat.com/mad.gif
