Your God is not my God - I don't have one.

Atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist - it's not a belief system.

I'm fine with the proposition that some people have a need to believe in a deity. but I don't feel the need to defend a 'non-belief.

I have no doubt that some people turn to faith as they come to terms with their own mortality as you describe, but to assume that is the 'norm' is not correct. There are many atheists who never made the switch in their later years.

I'm grateful that you never offered to pray for me Bear. The comeback would be just as offensive.

Re: Ruddick's Review. There are some aspects of religious freedom etc. that are already covered by discrimination laws throughout Australia. Because they are State based laws, Ruddick will be looking to bring them into line as well as ensure that religious freedom is protected - at least that's the hope.
